As we transition from the warmth of the summer into the bustling rhythm of September, it's essential to navigate the changes with intention and care. Here's why:
☀ We gradually lose 2h of light, from today to the end of September - which makes us naturally more tired, it gets a little more difficult to wake up, etc.
🌧 It starts to get colder and more humid
👥 People exposure: with everyone returning to work and school, social activities ramp up, increasing exposure to seasonal illnesses
🙇♀️ Higher stress levels - September tends to be quite hectic for everyone, but especially for parents - a lot of running around for the children's activities, on top of the rather busy time at work, new deadlines, travels etc.
And as all the above tend to bring our immunity in a rather difficult spot, here are a few ways to support ourselves:
1. Consider all the above, and promote a balanced behavior :)
While in September I hear many ladies wanting to "get back on track", after training less during the summer and indulging a bit, it is best to avoid dieting, overtraining and adding more changes to an already full and challenging September.
💡 My advice: start slow, let yourself the time to accommodate to the new rhythm, and go stronger in October!
2. Make time for yourself
Foresee a minimum of 1h a week TO DO NOTHING, ideally during the week time; while it can be nice to foresee yet another meeting with a friend, or even a hairdresser appointment, these bring another commitment… and you'll never know in advance how you'll feel that day.
Plan some "you time" - you'll see that very day if you want to take a walk, a bath, read, do a workout or simply do ...nothing.
💡 My advice: book the spots today in your agenda ...and do NOT cancel them!
3. Supplements
If you're prone to anemia or a Vit D deficiency, make sure to supplement accordingly, to protect your immunity at the beginning of the cold season.
💡My advice: test regularly for the micronutrients you have the tendency to be low in, so that you can be proactive.
4. Prioritize sleep
Sleep is the best medicine, often underestimated. With aging, we tend to have more disturbed sleep patterns, and taking care of our sleep hygiene in September is definitely a great way to help our bodies.
💡My advice: avoid late dinners, desserts, high intake of carbs and alcohol in the evening, to protect your sleep. If you have a glass or a cake, go out for a short walk :)
5. Stabilize your blood sugar
It will help you to decrease stress, practice a healthy weight management and increase productivity, by default!!
💡 My advice: hydrate well, have enough protein in small portions during the day and take mini-breathing moments during the day, too.
Place yourself on your own agenda, and navigate September like a pro, with joy, resilience and poise!
My best thoughts, may it be a productive and balanced month 🍁🍂
